Peel Region – Investigators from the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau have made an arrest in the region’s third homicide of 2017.
On Monday, March 13, 2017, the deceased victim, Cheryl McVarish, was reported missing from her Mississauga home. On Monday, March 20, 2017, during the early morning hours, the victim was located in the driveway of her residence.
Subsequent investigation revealed the victim had been murdered. The mechanism of death is currently under review by the Coroner’s Office. Blunt force trauma has been confirmed as one of the contributing factors.
In the early afternoon of Tuesday, May 2nd, 2017, Gil DASILVA a 64-year-old male from the City of Mississauga was arrested without incident at his residence for the second-degree murder of Cheryl McVarish. Gil DASILVA will appear in the A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse located at 7755 Hurontario St, Brampton for a remand hearing on May 03rd, 2017 on the charge of second-degree murder.
