Welland man faces child pornography charges

In May of 2017, members assigned to the Niagara Regional Police Service Internet Child Exploitation (I.C.E.) Unit engaged in a joint investigation that was initiated by members of the Toronto Police Service Child Exploitation Section.

On May 11th, 2017, members of the NRPS ICE unit with the assistance of the Technological Crimes Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in the City of Welland. A number of computer systems and storage media devices were seized.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, 56 year old James OLESIUK of Welland has been arrested and charged with the following three offences:

Possession of Child Pornography, Sec. 163.1(4)
Making Available Child Pornography, Sec 163.1(3)
Access Child Pornography , Sec 163.1(4.1)

OLESIUK has been held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for May 12th, 2017 at the Robert S.K. Welch Courthouse, located at 59 Church Street in the City of St Catharines.

The Niagara Regional Police Service is a member of the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the internet and conducts investigations into Internet Child Exploitation Offences in partnership with numerous Ontario Police Services. This investigative initiative has been made possible with financial assistance from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and the Ministry of the Attorney General.
