Boating accident on Chemong Lake claims the life of 20-year-old Chinese student

(SELWYN TOWNSHIP, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were called to Chemong Lake south of the causeway for a boating incident, shortly before 6:30 pm last evening.

A group of Chinese students were out on Chemong Lake were taking a tour of the area on a pontoon boat. One of the students fell from the bow of the vessel and became entangled under the boat. Members of Selwyn Fire Service were able to bring the victim to shore to waiting paramedics. Unfortunately, the 20-year-old student, from Beijing, China, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination has yet to be scheduled. The investigation into this fatality remains ongoing under the direction of the Office of the Chief Coroner.
