Former St Catharines Catholic School teacher faces charge of sexual assault and sexual exploitation

In July 2016 the Niagara Regional Police Service Sexual Assault Unit became involved in the investigation of a St. Catharines man for a historic sexual assault.

As a result of that investigation, on May 31st, 2017, Hans Eduard Unruh (65 years old) of the city of St. Catharines was arrested and is facing the alleged charges;

– Sexual Assault
– Sexual Exploitation

The incident occurred while the accused was a teacher at Holy Cross Catholic Secondary School in the city of St. Catharines between January 2011 and January 2012.
Unruh has been employed as a teacher for 25 years.
The female victim was 17 years old when the assault took place.

The victim and the accused are known to each other as a result of his role as a teacher.

Detectives believe there may be additional victims and are asking them to come forward.

Unruh will attend a bail hearing at the Robert S.K. Welch courthouse in St. Catharines on June 1st, 2017.
