Helicopter and K-9 Assist After Suspect Flees From Police


A 28-year-old male faces numerous charges including drug possession after fleeing from police early Saturday morning in Ajax.

On Saturday, June 24, 2017, at approximately 2:50 a.m., officers from West Division responded after a citizen called 911 advising he was following a suspected drunk driver on Salem Road in Ajax. Police located the vehicle and attempted to stop it. The suspect refused to stop and continued to drive in an erratic manner. Due to the high speeds, the pursuit was terminated for safety reasons.

Air1 assisted and they directed officers to an address in Toronto where the vehicle was located. The suspect was taken into custody with the assistance of our K-9 unit. A large quantity of drugs was seized (cocaine), with a street value of more than $55,000. Cash totaling approximately $3,800 was also seized.

Michael BENYAMIN, age 28, of Dan Leckie Way in Toronto, is charged with: Impaired Operation; Fail to Provide Breath Sample; Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle; Fail To Stop For Police; Novice Driver – B.A.C above zero; Possess Proceeds of Crime and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking(cocaine). He was held for a bail hearing.
