Kingston Officer assaulted when responding to family disturbance

A 40-year-old local man has been charged after striking an officer who was attempting to take him to the hospital.

On May 31, 2017 at approximately 5:00 p.m. officers responded to a west end address in regards to the accused being aggressive with family members.

Upon police arrival the accused was agitated and began yelling at police. Officers deemed it necessary to take the accused to the hospital for a well-being check. The accused refused to cooperate and attempted to walk away. The officers moved to stop the accused at which point he punched one officer in the cheek causing injury and breaking the officer’s sunglasses. With the use of a Taser and a necessary level of physical force the accused was handcuffed.

The accused was transported to the hospital for a well-being check and left in their care.

The accused was charged with assault with intent to resist.
