Man who broke into pet store seen putting a puppy and 4 kittens in plastic bag before fleeing

The Barrie Police Service is appealing to the public for assistance in efforts to identify a suspect following a break and enter and a theft of animals that occurred on Sunday, June 25, 2017, at 3:18 a.m., at Doogans Pet Emporium, located at Kozlov Mall, Barrie.

Video surveillance captured the suspect forcibly entering the pet store through the front door and walking directly to the back of the store, where it is believed he removed a puppy and four kittens from their cages. Within minutes the suspect is seen fleeing the store after placing the animals inside a plastic bag and heading northbound through the parking lot.

The animals have only had their first round of vaccinations and require ongoing care, as they are susceptible to dehydration and digestion complications.  The puppy is described as red-haired nine-week-old Cockapoo and four eight-week-old kittens of mixed colour.

Police are concerned for the well-being of the animals and the investigation is ongoing.

The suspect is described as;

  • Male, white (25-30 yrs.)
  • Thin build
  • Dark beard (chin strap style)
  • Wearing a dark pompom toque with a white stripe, light colored long sleeve shirt, capris and dark shoes.
