Man in custody following explosion at Vaughan cafe

Investigators with the York Regional Police #4 District Criminal Investigations Bureau are seeking witnesses after a suspicious explosion at a café in the City of Vaughan.

On Thursday, June 29, 2017, at 5:22 a.m., police were called to the Café Corretto located at 120 Winges Road, which is in the area of Highway 7 and Weston Road. When officers arrived they found that the café was in a state of partial collapse. Officers also located a 33-year-old man nearby that was suffering from non-life-threatening injuries. That man was placed under arrest and has been taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries. Investigators are treating this incident as suspicious.

The scene has been held pending an investigation by the Office of the Fire Marshal and Emergency Management.

Investigators are asking any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time of the incident who have not yet spoken to police to please come forward. Investigators are also seeking video surveillance from the area or anyone that may have captured dashcam video on the roadways around the plaza at the time of the incident.
