Peterborough man charged with aggravated assault following stabbing


A 53-year-old Peterborough man has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault following a Wednesday night stabbing at a Stewart Street residence.

On June 21, 2017 at approximately 7:35 p.m. the accused and the victim, a male in his 30’s, were at a residence on Stewart Street when they became involved in a verbal dispute. During the dispute the victim was stabbed with a knife.

Police and EMS attended the scene. The victim was initially taken to a local hospital then transported to a Toronto-based hospital where he remains for treatment.

As a result of the investigation Edwin John Hughes, 53, of Stewart Street, was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault.

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to attend court later today.

The investigation is ongoing. Police are no longer at the scene.
