Point Edward man who struck hydro pole faces impaired charge

(LAMBTON, ON) – On Saturday, June 24th, 2017 the Lambton County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a report of a motor vehicle that had lost control, struck a hydro pole and continued to travel southbound on St. Clair Street, Village of Point Edward.

At just before 5:30 a.m., the Lambton County OPP responded to the 200 block of St. Clair Street where police observed a severely damaged hydro pole. Located just south of this location, OPP located the driver of a Pontiac Sunfire which had sustained significant front end damage. During the course of the investigation, officers formed the opinion that the driver of the motor vehicle was impaired due to the consumption of an alcoholic beverage. The male party was consequently arrested and transported to the Lambton OPP – Petrolia Detachment for breath testing which resulted in readings twice the legal limit. No injuries were sustained or reported as a result of the collision.

As a result, 21 year old Cody SEVIGNY of the Village of Point Edward was charged with,

  • Driving While Ability Impaired
  • Driving With More Than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood
  • Young Driver B.A.C. Above Zero
  • Novice Driver B.A.C. Above Zero

The accused will appear in the Sarnia Ontario Court of Justice on Monday July 10th, 2017.

The OPP is again reminding drivers that any amount of alcohol or other drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. Impaired driving remains the leading cause of criminal death in Canada.
