A 13-year-old is among those charged after stolen vehicle crashes into a tree in Middlesex Centre

(MIDDLESEX CENTRE, ON) – On June 30th, 2017 at approximately 1:30 p.m., members of the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to reports of a motor vehicle collision (MVC) in the area of Bodkin Road and Jones Drive, Municipality of Middlesex Centre.

Upon arrival, police located two injured males at the scene. Responding officers learned that two other males had fled the scene of the collision. The motor vehicle involved had been reported as stolen.

The injured parties were transported by land and air ambulance to a London area hospital. Their injuries were initially believed to be life-threatening, however, soon after upgraded to non-life threatening.

A number of OPP officers responded to the area to assist, including members of the West Region Canine Unit (K9), Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU) and the Elgin-Middlesex Community Street Crimes Unit (CSCU). A firearm was located by police shortly after their initial response.

The two outstanding males were arrested after a three hour K9 search of the area. They were transported to an area hospital as a precaution and later cleared medically.

Two of the persons charged in this investigation are considered Young Offenders under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA). The identity of all accused is withheld to prevent the identification of the youths.

The Middlesex OPP Crimes Unit, OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS) and OPP Technical Collision Investigator (TCI) are assisting in this investigation.

As a result of the on-going investigation, the following charges are before the courts:

A 25-year-old male of London, Ontario has been charged with:

  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada
  • Unauthorized Poss of a Firearm

A 17-year-old male of London, Ontario has been charged with:

  • Unauthorized Poss of a Firearm
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance x 2
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was Firearm
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada

A 13-year-old male of London, Ontario has been charged with:

  • Unauthorized Poss of a Firearm
  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance x 3
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle knowing there was Firearm
  • Break, Enter dwelling house – commit indictable offence
  • Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 – in Canada
