Canada’s most notorious bank robber, the Vaulter, has plead guilty and has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, less 34 months credit for time served.  

On Tuesday, July 25, 2017, Jeffrey James SHUMAN, 55, appeared before the Honourable Justice Johnston and was sentenced to 15 years in prison and was ordered to pay more than $400,000 in restitution. Mr. SHUMAN pleaded guilty on June 12, 2017, to seven counts of Robbery with a Firearm.

Mr. SHUMAN was arrested on Tuesday, September 15, 2015, in Geneva, Switzerland on the strength of an international warrant issued by York Regional Police, on behalf of our partner police services. He was charged in connection with a series of bank robberies over the last five years including incidents in York Region, the City of Calgary, Peel Region and the Cities of Hamilton, Ottawa and Toronto.

“I am incredibly proud of the professionalism and hard work of our investigators and those in the partner agencies that finally put a stop to these frightening robberies,” said Chief Jolliffe.  “I also want to thank the authorities in Europe for their co-operation and diligence which led to his capture.”
