Driver charged after collision between tractor and motorcycle


(TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH, ON) – On July 4, 2017, at approximately 4:00 p.m. Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Wellington North Fire Services and Guelph-Wellington Paramedic Services responded to a collision involving a Farm Tractor and a motorcycle on Concession 6 North, Township of Wellington North.

The investigation revealed that a New Holland farm tractor connected to a wooden wagon was travelling southbound on Concession 6 North. A 2001 Harley Davidson motorcycle was travelling southbound on Concession 6 North approaching the farm tractor from behind. The farm tractor was slowing down and the motorcycle moved out to the northbound lane. At this point, the farm tractor initiated a left turn into a private driveway. The left turn was directly across the path of the southbound motorcycle.

The motorcycle struck the hay wagon on the left side causing the motorcycle operator to lose control. The driver of the motorcycle was ejected off the motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle was transported by Guelph – Wellington Paramedic Services to a local hospital and was later air lifted to Hamilton General Hospital for further treatment.

23-year-old Brandon STEVENS of West Grey has been charged with Operating an unsafe combination of vehicles and careless driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. He is to appear in Guelph Provincial Court August 16, 2017, to answer to the charges.
