A 34-year-old local man is facing charges for assaulting his common-law and killing her house cat.
On July 16, 2017, police began investigating the accused of attacking the victim and allegedly killing her house cat. The investigation revealed that at approximately 7:00 p.m. the victim had come home to find her cat was in the bathtub, wet and unresponsive. Further investigation revealed the accused had physically assaulted the victim on July 11, 2017, during an argument over money. The accused whereabouts were unknown and a warrant was applied for.
On July 18, 2017, at approximately 2:15 p.m. a patrol officer located the accused sitting on his bicycle on Montreal Street. The accused was arrested and during a search the officer found suspected marijuana, crystal methamphetamine, and various drug paraphernalia.
The accused was transported to police headquarters where he was held to attend a bail hearing the following day.
The accused was charged with assault, killing of an animal, and two counts of possession of a controlled drug.
