(Napanee, ON) – On July 6th, 2017 in the early morning (6:00am) officers with the Napanee Detachment with the Ontario Provincial Police were called to Springside Park for a woman in distress.
Officers attended downtown Napanee and located the woman who was injured and taken to hospital by ambulance. The woman provided police with the name and description of the male who attacked her. OPP attended at Springside Park and located the suspect at scene.
The male was arrested at scene and transported to Napanee Detachment. Evidence was collected at the park by the Napanee Crime Unit and the OPP Forensic Identification Services. The lower parking lot at Springside Park was and remains closed to the public.
The investigation revealed that the 35-year-old male from Toronto and his 35-year-old wife were involved in an altercation that resulted in the male causing the female serious injury.
The male has been charged with;
- Assault x 2
- Assault with a Weapon
- Attempt Murder
- Arson Disregard for Human Life
- Forcible Confinement
- Counseling indictable Offence which is not Committed
The male attended the Ontario Court of Justice for a Bail Hearing on July 6, 2017, in Napanee, he was held and will make his first appearance early next week. There was a publication ban imposed by the court to protect the identity of the victim.
The female victim was later released from the hospital.
The investigation is ongoing at this time. The OPP are not seeking any further suspects.
