Investigators with the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit – Sexual Assault Unit are asking for public assistance in identifying a suspect following a sexual assault that took place in the City of Markham.

On Friday, June 30, 2017, at just before 2 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was approached by an unknown male suspect in the food court at the Markville Mall. The suspect attempted to engage the victim in conversation and began asking personal questions. The suspect left the area when the victim’s mother approached them. Approximately 30 minutes later, the victim was in an electronics store when the suspect approached him and touched him sexually without consent. The suspect fled when the victim stated he was going to call police.  

The suspect is described as:

• Male, South Asian
• 40 to 50 years
• 5’6”, thin build
• Dark skin, dark hair and clean shaven
• Wearing a light-green polo T-shirt, dark pants and glasses
• Spoke with a stutter

A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. York Regional Police would like to encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police.
