Police apprehend man after false reports of multiple homicide

On July 25, 2017, at approximately 4:45 p.m., Waterloo Regional Police responded to a residence on Riverbank Drive in Cambridge after receiving a 911 call from a male reporting that a multiple homicide had just occurred in the home.

Members of the Emergency Response Unit and patrol officers responded to the residence and arrested a male who was outside the home. The residence and all surrounding buildings were checked and no one found.

It was determined that the information received in the 911 call was false. A 32-year-old male was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to a local hospital for assessment. No criminal charges will be laid.
