(NIPIGON, ON) – Between Monday, June 26, 2017, and Monday, July 17, 2017, Nipigon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received three reports of break and enter and thefts from an Ontario Government storage facility located on Highway 11 in the Municipality of Greenstone. Stolen were outboard boat motors, various electronic devices, a 16-foot boat with trailer and a snowblower.
Police investigation revealed six separate break and enters had occurred over this period of time, and a suspect was identified. On Sunday, July 23, 2017, a search warrant was executed at a Rocky Bay residence where property from the break and enters was recovered.
Nipigon OPP officers with the assistance of members of the OPP Northwest Region Crime Unit and the OPP Forensic Identification Unit (FISU) were able to recover further property.
Theophile GUIMOND, 31 years of age, of Rocky Bay was arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Six counts of Break and Enter with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence contrary to section 348(1)(b)
- Four counts of Theft under $5000 contrary to section 334(b)
- Two counts of Theft over $5000
- One count of Possession of property obtained by crime contrary to section 354(1)(a)
The accused remains in custody.
