Search warrant executed in Mattawa; two people face multiple charges

(PAPINEAU-CAMERON TOWNSHIP, ON) – On July 23, 2017, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) search warrant in Papineau-Cameron Township.

The CSCU was assisted by members of the OPP’s Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU), Emergency Response Team (ERT), North Bay Crime Unit, Canine and the Mattawa OPP Detachment members.

As a result of the search warrant, Shawn Joseph MILLER, 44, of Mattawa was arrested and charged with the following offences:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking Contrary to Section 5(2) of the CDSA (x3);
  • Possession of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – under 3kg Contrary to Section 5(2) of the CDSA (x2);
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 Contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 Contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the CC;
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon Contrary to Section 91(2) of the CC;    and with
  • Possession of a Weapon Contrary to Prohibition Order Contrary to Section 117.01(1) of the CC

He was held in custody and will return to the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay on July 27, 2017.

Julie VALOIS, 37, of Mattawa was also arrested and charged as a result of the search warrant with following charges:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking Contrary to Section 5(2) of the CDSA (x3);
  • Possessions of a Schedule II Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – under 3kg Contrary to Section 5(2) of the CDSA (x)2;
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 Contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC);
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 Contrary to Section 354(1)(a) of the CC; and with
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon Contrary to Section 91(2) of the CC

She was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to attend at the Ontario Court of Justice in Mattawa on September 20, 2017.
