Teenager in stolen vehicle flees from police and crashes into parked car

A 16-year-old male faces numerous charges after fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle yesterday afternoon in Whitby.

On Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at approximately 2:40 p.m., a member of Central West Division was patrolling in the area of Rossland Road and Cochrane Street in Whitby. The officer spotted a suspect, wanted for robbery-related offences, operating a motor vehicle in this area.

The officer attempted to pull the vehicle over and the suspect continued to drive, failing to stop for police. The officer pursued the vehicle for a short distance but terminated the pursuit due to high speeds and erratic driving by the suspect. The suspect while attempting to elude police collided with a parked vehicle at Vernon Street and Cochrane Street. The suspect fled on foot while the 14-year-old male passenger stayed in the vehicle. Police quickly responded and were able to arrest the fleeing suspect.

The driver, a 16-year-old male, faces numerous charges including: Theft of Motor Vehicle; Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under $5000 x2; Flight from Police; Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident and Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence. The male was charged with robbery related charges stemming from another incident. He was held for a bail hearing.
