5 transported to hospital following 3 car collision in intersection

On Monday, August 7, 2017, at approximately 11:30 a.m., Waterloo Regional Police responded to a collision that occurred at the intersection of Fischer-Hallman Road and Bearinger Road, at Laurelwood Drive, in Waterloo.

A 37-year-old Waterloo man, who was operating a blue Dodge Caravan, was eastbound on Laurelwood Drive when he entered the intersection at Fisher-Hallman Road and Bearinger Road. The blue Caravan was then struck by a black 2003 Buick Rendezvous, which was being driven by a 37-year-old Kitchener man. The blue Caravan was then heavily impacted by a silver Dodge Caravan. Both Caravans were destroyed in the collision.

The silver Caravan had three Waterloo residents in it, a 71-year-old man, a 63-year-old woman and a 40-year-old man. The four occupants of the Dodge Caravans were transported to local hospitals with various injuries. One occupant of the Silver Caravan, the 63-year-old woman, was airlifted to a hospital outside the region with life threatening injuries. The driver of the Buick was not injured.

The intersection was closed for several hours for the investigation. Alcohol and drugs were not factors in the collision. The investigation is on going and charges are pending.
