Carjacker demands vehicle at knifepoint, Crashes car into tree

A 24-year-old male is facing several charges after carjacking a vehicle and later crashing it at an Ajax intersection early this morning.

On Wednesday August 9, 2017, just after midnight, a male suspect approached a male parked outside a gas station on Salem Road near the 401. The suspect produced a knife and demanded the male hand over his car keys. The suspect drove off in the vehicle at a high rate of speed, almost hitting several other vehicles. The victim was not physically harmed.

The suspect later crashed the car into a tree while attempting to turn northbound on Church Street off Kingston Road and the vehicle caught fire. Police arrived and found the suspect on the sidewalk where he was arrested. He was taken to hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Shane KINDREE, age 24, of Mandrake Street in Ajax, is charged with: Possess Weapon Dangerous to Public Peace; Robbery/Theft with Violence or Threats of Violence; Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle; Possess Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and Fail to Comply with Probation x2. He was held for a bail hearing.
