Chatham man charged with possession of stolen property


Sometime throughout the night of July 30, 2017 an unknown suspect(s) went onto a residential property and entered a shed. The following items were stolen: a ‘Chatham Strikers’ soccer backpack with the owner’s last name embroidered on it, along with soccer equipment that belonged to the owner’s young daughter. The owner called the police to report the incident and stolen items.

On August 1, 2017, the man was observed inside the 7-Eleven store in Chatham wearing a ‘Chatham Strikers’ soccer backpack bearing the surname of who actually owned it.

Through investigation, the man’s identity was confirmed and a warrant was issued for his arrest due to his whereabouts being unknown.

Yesterday morning at 9:30 a.m. the man was located on William Street in Chatham.

John Shaver, 27 years, of Wellington Street E. in Chatham was arrested and charged with possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He was transported to Chatham-Kent Police Service Headquarters where he was later released with a court date of August 23, 2017.
