Driver from Ajax tries to hit officer with car after being flagged down for speeding

A 21-year-old male faces numerous charges after attempting to strike an officer with his vehicle and resisting arrest in Pickering yesterday evening.

On Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at approximately 5:20 p.m., members from West Division were conducting speed enforcement and observed a Honda Civic travelling at a high rate of speed westbound on Taunton Road in Pickering. The officer flagged the vehicle to stop, the driver slowed down and swerved in the direction of the officer causing him to jump out of the way to avoid being hit. The driver stopped his vehicle and when the officer attempted to place him under arrest, the suspect resisted and was eventually taken into custody.

Malik WILLIAMS, age 21, of Bean Crescent in Ajax, is charged with: Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle; Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon; Assault with Intent to Resist and Speeding. He was held for a bail hearing.
