(ZORRA TOWNSHIP, ON.) – Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Oxford County detachment investigated a sudden death at a Hydro One substation facility in Zorra Township.
On Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at approximately 7:15 p.m. members of the OPP, Oxford County paramedics, Air Ornge Ambulance and Zorra Township fire department responded to a call located at the substation compound on Road 78 between 19th Line and 23rd Line in Zorra Township.
A passerby noticed what he believed to be someone lying on the ground inside the locked compound.
Hydro One attended to allow access to the locked/fenced in facility, as well as to prove the area safe to allow emergency services to enter the compound.
Once access was gained, a 64-year-old male from Durham, Ontario was located deceased.
The male was pronounced dead by the coroner at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious and no foul play is suspected.
The investigation is continuing, however OPP have determined that the male was not an employee of Hydro One and was trespassing at the time of the incident.
The OPP warn all citizens of the inherent dangers of trespassing into an electrical facility. Identification of the victim will be forthcoming pending notification of next-of-kin.
