Fatal collision following failure to yield right-of-way at intersection


On Wednesday August 9th, 2017, at 3pm, police were dispatched to the intersection of Centre Road and Concession 11 East for a motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles.

A Hyundai Accent driven by an elderly female Hamilton resident was travelling eastbound on Concession 11 East approaching Centre Road. Meanwhile, a Chevrolet Impala driven by a male Hamilton resident was travelling southbound on Centre Road approaching Concession 11 East.

Evidence at the scene indicated the Hyundai fail to yield the right-of-way to the Chevrolet.

Both drivers were taken to area hospitals with varying injuries. The Chevrolet driver was treated and released while the Hyundai driver remained due to her declining health. The Hyundai driver ultimately succumbed to her injuries at the hospital as a result of the collision.

The identity of the Hyundai driver will not be released as police are still in the process of locating next-of-kin.

The investigation is ongoing however impairment has been ruled out.

This collision marks the 12th motor vehicle fatality for 2017 and the 10th driver death for the year.
