Good samaritans intervene as distraught man jumps in front of vehicles

Officers were successful in apprehending a distraught male with assistance of the public in Pickering yesterday evening.

On Monday, July 31, 2017, at approximately 9:00 p.m., members from West Division responded to the area of Brock Street and Pickering Parkway in Pickering for a distraught male. Citizens called 911 after observing a driver exit his vehicle and started jumping in front of vehicles, screaming and shouting uncontrollably. Several citizens were able to subdue the male to prevent him from running into live lanes of traffic. Police arrived and the male was taken into custody without incident.

The 37-year-old male was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for assessment.
