(DUTTON, ON) – On the 29th of August 2017 around 4:30p.m. Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a two vehicle collision on the 401 Highway, west bound lanes east of Dutton, ON.

A 2016 Grey Ford pickup truck was traveling on the 401 east bound, when it crossed over the center median and struck a 2011 Grey Honda van traveling in the west bound lanes.

A collision occurred at this time causing both vehicles to sustain extensive damage. Dutton Fire Service and St. Thomas Elgin paramedics attended the scene. Fire conducted extractions on both vehicles, while ambulance transported the involved parties to hospital.

The driver of the Honda van has been identified as 42-year-old Sarah PAYNE of London, ON. A 5-year-old female passenger of the van, Freya PAYNE also of London, ON died due to injuries sustained in the collision. A 6-year-old male passenger of the van, William PAYNE is now in stable condition. The 56-year-old male driver of the truck from Cambridge, ON is also in stable condition.

The 401highway remained closed in both directions to allow first responders safe access to the collision scene.

The OPP’s Technical Collision Investigators (TCI) attended the scene. TCI’s deployed the OPP’s unmanned aerial system in order to collect further information into the collision scene.

Highway 401 was re-opened to traffic in both directions around 11:00p.m. Charges are pending the completion of this investigation.
