At approximately 2am on Wednesday August 23rd, 2017, an officer observed a reported stolen car operating in the Queenston Street and Niagara Street area in the City of St. Catharines.

The officer attempted to stop the vehicle; however it fled at a high rate of speed.  The vehicle was quickly located abandoned in a nearby parking lot in the area of Maplewood Drive and Linwell Road.

Members of the Niagara Regional Police K9 Unit (PSD Havoc) along with 1 District St. Catharines uniform officers searched the area, arresting 3 male suspects.

Daniel CAVANAUGH (24 years) of St. Catharines is charged with the alleged offences of:

• Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer- Section 249.1(1) CC
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000- Section 355(a) CC
• Obstruct Peace Officer- Section 129(a)CC
• Fail to Comply with Probation- Section 733.1(1) CC (3 Counts)

Matthew MARCOTTE (19 years) of St. Catharines is charged with the alleged offences of:

Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000- Section 355(a) CC
Fail to Comply with Probation- Section 733.1(1) CC

CAVANAUGH and MARCOTTE were held in custody for a bailing to be held on this date at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines.

Tristan McDOWELL (18 years) of St. Catharines is charged with the alleged offence of:

• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000- Section 355(a) CC

McDowell was released from NRPS custody on a Promise to Appear / Office in Charge Undertaking.  He will appear at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on October 3, 2017 to answer to his charge.
