Victim of distraction robbery sprayed in the face by suspect during pursuit

On Monday August 28th 2017, just shortly before 6:00 pm, Hamilton Police responded to a robbery in the area of Main Street West at Queen Street, Hamilton.

The victim, a 24 year old male, was standing at the bus stop when he was approached by the suspect who asked for the time. The victim looked down at his watch at which time the suspect grabbed a package from the victims hand and ran towards Ray Street with the victim in pursuit.

On Ray Street the suspect stopped, turned and produced a can of an unknown substance and sprayed the victim in the face. The suspect then ran towards Main Street and was last seen at Pearl St. The victim was treated by EMS at the scene for a burning sensation to his face.

The suspect was described as a male black, late teens to early twenties, slender build, 5-10″ to 6’-0″ tall, black curly hair, wearing a faded grey hoodie, faded blue jeans, a red belt, red undergarment visible over the waistband of the low worn jeans, and black high top running shoes with a white sole edging.
