On Monday, September 25th, 2017, at approximately 2:34 p.m., the Niagara Regional Police Service, the Fort Erie Fire Service and the Niagara Emergency Medical Service (EMS), responded to reports of 2 vehicle collision that occurred in the intersection of Garrison Road at Helena Street in the Town of Fort Erie, Ontario.

Investigators have determined that a 17 year-old male from Ennismore, Ontario, was operating a 2009 Dodge Journey with 5 additional teenage passengers whom were all residents of Fort Erie. The Dodge was traveling east on Garrision Road when it entered into the intersection at Helena Street and collided with a 2014 BMW 550I that was being driven south by a lone 63 year-old male from Niagara Falls, Ontario. The collision caused the Dodge to roll onto its roof and come to final rest within the intersection. The BMW remained on its wheels and also came to final rest in the intersection. A 16 year-old male passenger from Fort Erie was seated in the Dodge and received life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a trauma center in Western New York but succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival. All other occupants involved in this collision received minor injuries. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time.

Investigators are requesting that residents and businesses in the area of the intersection review any surveillance or dash camera footage that may have captured the involved vehicles approach to the intersection and/or the collision itself. This collision remains under investigation by Detectives of the Niagara Regional Police – Collision Reconstruction Unit.
