Investigators with the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau have charged a 34-year-old man following two street-level robberies in East Gwillimbury.

On Thursday, September 21, 2017, at approximately 6:30 a.m., a woman attended the drive-thru automated teller machine (ATM) at a bank located in the area of Yonge Street and Green Lane. She had withdrawn a small amount of cash when she was approached by a male suspect armed with a knife who demanded that she clear out her account. The victim rolled up her window and drove away.

At 8:45 a.m. the same suspect attended a convenience store on Davis Drive and made a purchase, then stole a cellphone from the employee which was sitting on the counter.  The employee realized her phone was gone and chased the suspect. A brief physical altercation occurred resulting in a witness calling police. The victim suffered minor injuries. Officers arrived and located the suspect. He was arrested and charged and the cell phone was recovered.

The accused will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on September 22, 2017.
