A Durham Regional Police Officer discharged his weapon while working in Toronto this morning, but there have been no reported injuries.

On Thursday, September 7, 2017, Durham Regional Police officers from our Offender Management Unit were investigating a suspect in an ongoing criminal investigation from Durham Region. At approximately 11:20 a.m., the suspect’s vehicle was boxed in on St. Clair Street West, but the suspect managed to drive away, toward a DRP officer standing nearby. That officer fired several rounds at the vehicle and was struck on the arm by the vehicle as it passed by. The vehicle drove away and attempts to locate the suspect have been unsuccessful.

The officer was taken to hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries have been reported at this time and the location of the suspect is not known. The DRPS contacted the Special Investigations Unit as a precaution and Toronto Police were called to conduct an investigation.

Anyone with new information is asked to contact the Toronto Police Service at 1-416-808-2222 or the DRPS at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 4350.
