UPDATE: Homicide investigators have reached out to the Toronto Police Underwater Search and Recovery Team to assist with searching Lake Ontario for evidence after a female torso was discovered in Oshawa.

Divers from Toronto Police Service will be assisting our investigators today on the waterfront in efforts to find any further evidence to assist in identifying the unknown female victim.

Homicide Detectives are investigating this case as the eighth homicide of the year in Durham Region.

Police are aware that pictures of the torso have been circulating on various social media platforms. Investigators urge anyone with photographic evidence to contact them as soon as possible. Police also urge people to refrain from posting such photographs on social media as this may interfere with the successful investigation of this homicide.

Investigators continue to read missing person reports from other police services. At this point in the investigation, the identity of the female remains unknown.
