Homeowner forced to barricade his family in the bathroom during home invasion


Investigators with the York Regional Police Hold-Up Unit have laid charges after a rapid police response leads to arrests during a home invasion in the Town of Richmond Hill.

On Saturday, September 23, 2017, at 5:05 a.m., York Regional Police were called to a residence on Edgar Avenue following a report of shots being fired at a residence and suspects forcing their way into the home. The homeowner collected his family, including two young children ages 6 and 4, and barricaded themselves in a bathroom.   

Officers arrived quickly at the residence and set up a perimeter. The suspects were observed inside the home both armed with firearms and wearing military and police style attire. The suspects were arrested at gunpoint when they tried to flee from the back of the home.

None of the seven victims in the home at the time were physically injured during the incident.

• Personation with Intent to Obtain Property

The accused parties will be appearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on Wednesday, September 27, 2017.
