Man charged with impersonating a member of the Canadian Military


(Napanee, ON) On September 22, 2017 at approximately 10:30 AM, officers with the Napanee Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a theft complaint in Loyalist Township.

The victim reportedly met a male on an online dating site where the male claimed to be a member of the Canadian Military. The male suspect subsequently befriended the unsuspecting victim and within a month, the man moved into the victim’s home and began to steal money from her.

An OPP investigation revealed that the suspect was James Genereaux, age 36 of Trenton (formerly of Loyalist Twp). He was arrested and taken into custody.

The accused faces charges of

  • Personating a Peace officer and Personating a Peace officer while using a uniform contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Three counts of theft under 5000.00 and Two counts of Theft over 5000.00 contrary to the Criminal Code ; and
  • Fail to comply with a Recognizance of Bail contrary to the Criminal Code

The accused was held for a bail hearing and will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Napanee on 03 October 2017.
