The Toronto Police Service would like to inform the public of an arrest in an investigation into an Assault on a Parking Enforcement Officer.

It is alleged that:

  • on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at approximately 6:30 p.m., a Parking Enforcement officer was issuing parking tickets in the Portland Street and Queen Street West area.
  • a man, 22, became upset with the Parking Enforcement Officer after being issued a ticket and proceeded to follow him as he drove away
  • the man then accelerated his vehicle at a high rate of speed, driving in oncoming traffic through busy downtown streets, and chased the Parking Enforcement Officer down in the Portland Street and King Street West area
  • the Parking Enforcement Officer was cornered at a traffic light
  • the man then threw a full cup of coffee at the Parking Enforcement Officer, hitting him in the face

On Tuesday, September 12, 2017, Omar Darkhabani, 22, of Oakville, was arrested.

He is charged with:

1) Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
2) Assault a peace officer with a weapon

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Monday, October 16, 2017, 11 a.m.
