Peterborough burglary suspect caught after his stolen ATV runs out of fuel

(Asphodel-Norwood Township, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to investigate a number of break and enters to a number of homes in the area of Peterborough County Road 2 and the Third Line shortly before 10:30 am yesterday morning.

Police were able to identify the suspect from video surveillance at one of the residences. OPP officers located the suspect after the stolen ATV he was riding ran out of fuel and he attempted to hide in a garage.

Lucas Albert NEHRLING (age 38) of Peterborough, Ontario was arrested at the scene and charged with following offenses:

  • Break, enter and theft under $5000 (3 counts)
  • Possession of break in tools
  • Wearing a disguise while committing an indictable offense
  • Theft over $5000 (ATV)
  • Resist police officer
  • Fail to comply with recognizance (2 counts)

The accused remains in custody pending a show cause hearing in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough, Ontario later today.
