On Friday, September 29, 2017 at approximately 1:15 p.m.,, Waterloo Regional Police responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Barrie Street and Churchill Drive in Cambridge.
A Toyota RAV4 was travelling west on Churchill Drive. The driver, a 70-year-old Cambridge woman, stopped at the stop sign on Barrie Street and then turned left onto Barrie Street. When the vehicle made the left turn, it struck two pedestrians that were walking east across Barrie Street on the south side of the intersection.
A a 78-year-old Cambridge woman and an 11-year-old Cambridge boy were stuck by the vehicle. Both pedestrians were transported to Cambridge Memorial Hospital where the female pedestrian was pronounced dead. The boy suffered minor injuries and was released from hospital a few hours after the collision. The intersection was closed for approximately five hours while police investigated.
