DUTTON, ON) – The Elgin County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) received a traffic complaint about an eastbound white Ford Mustang near Dutton, ON. This happened on the 401Highway around 3:30p.m. on the 5th of October, 2017. An officer hearing the call set up near Iona Road to intercept the traffic complaint east of Dutton, ON.

The officer locked in the mustang travelling in excess of 200km/h in a posted 100 km/h zone. A traffic stop ensued and the vehicle pulled over. Further investigation revealed that the driver was also impaired by alcohol.

The driver of the vehicle, a 23-year-old Dutton, ON male is charged with:

  • Driving while impaired by alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the Criminal Code
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Stunt driving contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act

The 2016 Ford Mustang was impounded for seven days as a result of the stunt driving charge. The driver also faces a 90 day administrative driver licence suspension in regards to the impaired/over 80 driving charges.

The accused was later released and is scheduled to appear in St. Thomas Criminal Court on the 31 of October 2017.
