LONDON, ON (October 19, 2017) – On Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at 5:45 pm, the London Police Service received a call indicating a male with a rifle was at the door of the complainant’s house. The caller provided his address as a home in a Byron neighbourhood.

Multiple officers attended the area, and a perimeter was set up. The streets surrounding the home were closed for approximately one hour while police conducted their investigation.

The area was checked, and the home was searched with negative results. No one residing on the street where police were dispatched were aware of the call itself and no one observed a male with a gun.

Additional calls were made to the London Police Service from the same phone number following the incident. The investigation revealed that the calls was made by persons residing in South Africa, who are known to the homeowner.

Officers have been able to positively identify the callers. Due to the fact that the false report created an unnecessary risk to public safety, charges are pending against a 53-year-old man and a 16-year-old male for public mischief, contrary to section 140(1)(c) of the Criminal Code of Canada.
