(Greenstone, ON) – On Wednesday, October 4, 2017, at approximately 11:00 pm, members of the Greenstone Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were conducting a R.I.D.E. check for impaired drivers on Highway 11 at Highway 584 turn off in Geraldton, Ontario, when a tractor-trailer unit came through the checkpoint.
Based on driving behaviour along with a number of other indicators, police soon developed grounds to believe that the driver was impaired by drug.
The driver was arrested and transported to the Greenstone OPP detachment where he provided samples of his breath to a trained Breath Technician Officer and was also evaluated by an officer trained as a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE). As a result of this investigation Timothy STAFFORD, 51 years old, of Armstrong, Ontario, was charged with:
- Driving while ability impaired by drug contrary to section 253 (1)(a) of the Criminal Code
- Possession of a schedule II substance – cannabis marihuana contrary to section 4 (1) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
He will appear in Court in Geraldton, Ontario, on Thursday, November 16, 2017, at 10:00 am to answer to the charges.
