A 21-year-old driver from Toronto is facing multiple charges after a short pursuit in Whitby early this morning.
On Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at approximately 4:50 a.m, an officer from Central West Division attempted to stop a silver four-door Acura for a traffic-related offence. The suspect vehicle was travelling southbound on Thickson Road in Whitby. When the officer activated his emergency lights, the vehicle sped off and in attempts to elude police, merged onto the westbound lanes of Highway 401. The vehicle continued to drive at a high rate of speed and exited at Brock Street. The suspect vehicle lost control and came to rest in the opposing lanes. The suspect(s) exited the vehicle and fled on foot, one was arrested a short distance away. Another suspect is still outstanding.
Leonardo JONES ALLEYNE, age 21, of Alexmuir Boulevard in Toronto, is charged with: Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle; Flight from Police; Fail to Comply with Recognizance x4; Possession of a Controlled Schedule II Substance (Marihuana); Fail to Comply with Probation Order; Careless Driving and other Highway Traffic Act offences. He was held for a bail hearing.
