A 45-year-old local man was charged after large rocks fell from the dump truck he was driving on Highway 401.

On October 16, 2017 at approximately 5:15 p.m. an off-duty Kingston police officer was travelling westbound on Highway 401 near Sir John A McDonald Boulevard. The officer observed a dump truck travelling the same direction, dropping large stones from its load onto the highway. The officer was able to avoid the debris and catch up to the dump truck as if pulled off at Gardiners Road. The officer identifies himself and directed the driver to pull over.

The rear gate was found to be insecure which was properly closed. The driver was directed to attend the station for a vehicle inspection. As a result of the inspection, the dump truck was pulled off the road until a major defect was repaired.

The driver was charged with the insecure load under the Highway Traffic Act.
