UPDATE: OPP release name of motorcyclist who died in Hwy 7 crash near Havelock


UPDATE: The male victim and the rider of the motorcycle the from yesterday’s collision has been identified as:

Douglas RAY (age 68) of Stirling-Rawdon Township

A post mortem examination is scheduled for today at the Provincial Forensic Pathology Unit at the Forensic Services and Coroners complex in Toronto. Police continue to investigate the collision.

(HAVELOCK-BELMONT-METHUEN TOWNSHIP, ON) – Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were called to assist at a serious collision on Highway 7 east of the Village of Havelock shortly before the noon hour today.

A westbound motorcycle was struck by an eastbound vehicle as it was attempting to turn left on Sama Park Road. The 68 year-old male operator of the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. The female driver of the car was treated for minor injuries at an area hospital.

Highway 7 between Belmont 2nd Line and Blairton Road was closed for several hours while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction measured and documented the scene. The cause of the crash remains under investigation and the identity of the victim will not be released until next of kin are notified.
