LONDON: 13-year-old steals minivan and crashes into 2 vehicle

LONDON, ON (November 28, 2017) – The 13-year-old driver of a stolen minivan that ran into two vehicles at the intersection of Springbank Drive and Wonderland Road at approximately 12 pm today, was apprehended by police following a foot chase.

The minivan, which had been reported stolen at approximately 12 am on November 28, 2017, was spotted by a Traffic Management Unit officer who was in the area of Dundas Street and Maitland Avenue.

The minivan was stolen when the boy escaped custody from a detention centre on King Street.

The vehicle description and location was provided to officers in the area, and the vehicle was located stopped in the westbound lanes at the intersection of Springbank Drive at Wonderland Road. Officers approached the stopped vehicle on foot, at which point the driver proceeded to drive over the median and through the intersection, striking two vehicles in the process.

The youth fled the vehicle and was subsequently arrested by officers in the area.

One individual suffered minor injuries as a result of the motor vehicle collision.

The youth, who cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is currently in custody. Charges are pending at this time.
