On Saturday December 2, 2017, at approximately 4:30 PM uniform members of 6 District, assisted by officers from the Canine Unit and Traffic Enforcement Unit, attended in the area of Highway 3 and Killaly Street West, Port Colborne in response to a suspicious person incident.
Investigation indicated that a pickup truck was travelling westbound on Killaly Street West, between Westside Road and Highway 3, while a male was walking eastbound on the north shoulder of the road. As the pickup approached the male, the driver moved the vehicle to the left in order to create space for the pedestrian, however, the pedestrian moved towards the truck and swung what is believed to be a hatchet at the passing vehicle.
The pedestrian did not make contact with the vehicle and continued to walk eastbound along the road before walking southbound and entering a field adjacent to the roadway. Despite police efforts, the suspect could not be located and the motive for his actions remains unknown.
The pedestrian is described as a white male, 40’s to 50’s in age, with a medium build. He was wearing a black toque, and a dark brown baggy jacket and pants. Anyone with information relating to this incident is asked to call 6 District-Niagara Regional Police Service at 905-688-4111 Extension 3200 or Crimestoppers.
